Benjamin Henry Latrobe

Benjamin Henry LatrobeBenjamin Henry Latrobe was born in England in 1764 and studied under Europe's most prestigious architects. Emigrating to America in 1795-96, Latrobe established himself as the foremost architect, engineer and designer of the new republic. Until his death in 1820, he designed and collaborated on some of the country's most important structures, including the United States Capitol, and helped create a distinctly American style of architecture.

Known to many as the father of American architecture, Latrobe set a standard of style and professionalism that resonates even today.
